Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 19, 2007) - John Brown men’s soccer looked sluggish in the opening half of their match on Wednesday. However, in the second half, JBU would come to life and earn the 3-0 shutout victory over NCAA Division II opponent Missouri Southern.
Both teams would enter the second half scoreless after several key saves from both keepers in the first half. But JBU’s Gabriel Duarte would spark the Golden Eagle attack after beating the keeper to the ball inside the box and tallying his first goal. Oscar Amaya would pick up the assist.
Then in the 74th minute, the MSSU misfortune would continue after Jamal Bandeh’s cross would be deflected into the goal by MSSU’s Eddie Mulholland for an own goal. This would give JBU the 2-0 lead.
In the 89th JBU would put the nail in the coffin when junior Akeem “Sam” Grant would pick up the assist after finding sophomore forward Justin Thompson on a breakaway for the finisher.
Spencer Watson would earn three saves for the day.
With the win, John Brown moves to 2-3 overall.
JBU returns to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. when they take on St. Mary (Kan.) at home.
