Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 18, 2007) - John Brown University women’s soccer team gave the fans at Alumni Field a treat on Tuesday afternoon after defeating NCAA Division II opponent Northeastern Okla. State 3-1.
NSU would set the tone early in the ninth minute when junior Sarah Spencer would take advantage of a scramble in the box for the first goal of the match.
JBU would find the equalizer when freshman Sarah Kidd would score on a breakaway in the 17th minute.
In the 23rd minute, junior Rachel Gerdin would find sophomore Jodi Knack slashing in front of a defender. After several missed tackles, Knack would strike the ball into the left corner of the goal to give JBU the 2-1 lead. This is where it stood at halftime.
Both teams would remain scoreless in the second half until the 73rd minute when freshman Camille Malkiewicz would have a shot ricochet off the post and directly to teammate Robyn Cluka who would put it away for her first goal of the match.
JBU would clamp down on defense for the remainder of the match and hold on for the 3-1 win.
Junior Megan Rouse and freshman Katie Mahoney would split goalkeeper duties for the day. And as a team John Brown would only allow 10 shots (three on goal) for the entire match.
John Brown (4-3, 1-0) will return to action on Saturday when they play St. Mary (Kan.) at 12 p.m.
