Women Grab Win in Conference Opener

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 15, 2007) — The Lady Golden Eagles looked impressive in their second home game of the season defeating Rogers State 4-2. Freshman midfielder Alex McMichael scored two goals in the win.

McMichael struck early in seventh minute of the game, after a Rachel Gerdin missed opportunity. McMichael would sneak pass several defenders for the rebound and JBU’s first goal. In the 18th minute, freshman Melinda Gentry would blast a shot from 20 yards out that would hit the post. But freshman Sarah Kidd would follow up the miss and put JBU ahead 2-0. McMichael would tally her second goal in the 41st minute on a breakaway giving JBU a 3-0 lead just before half time.

Rogers State would come out fired up in the second half, closing the gap to 3-2 after Robin Sutherland would force a foul in the box and score on a penalty kick in the 47th minute. Amanda Berger would score her first goal and Rogers State’s second two minutes later. RSU would have several opportunities to come within striking distance but in the 60th minute, freshman Camille Malkiewicz's shot from just outside the box would blaze past the Lady Hillcat keeper giving JBU the 4-2 lead.

John Brown (3-3, 1-0) played incredible defense throughout the match limiting Rogers State to only seven shots for the entire match. Senior goalkeeper Natalie Wall picked up the win with four saves. John Brown will return to the field on Tuesday, Sept. 15th for a home match up against Northeastern State (Okla.).
