Volleyball Splits on First Day in Texas

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 14, 2007) — John Brown University women’s volleyball ended day one of the Texas Wesleyan University Tournament 1-1 after falling in the early game 0-3 (22-30, 25-30, 25-30) to Texas Wesleyan. But the team regrouped and came back to defeat Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in three games 30-26, 30-18, 31-29.

In game one, freshman Amber Wilson paced JBU with seven kills and four aces. Brittney Kerns totaled 14 assists, and sophomore libero Shannon Proctor earned 11 digs.

Game two saw a more aggressive JBU squad take the floor and close out the day on a winning note. Springdale (Ark.) native Kirsten Lee led the way with 11 kills while junior Laurae Marty was close behind with 10 kills and two blocks. Kerns added 20 assists to her total for the day along with five aces. Junior Aubrey Junker led the defense with 22 digs.

John Brown will resume action on Saturday when they face Belhaven (Miss.) at 11 a.m. and Sterling (Kan.) at 3 p.m.
