Women’s Soccer Falls on the road

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 1, 2007) — John Brown University Lady Golden Eagles fell to 1-1 on the season after losing a 5-4 nail biter against Park (Mo.) on Saturday afternoon. John Brown jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but Park (1-0) wouldn't back down and rallied for the win.

Freshman Camille Malkiewicz put JBU ahead early scoring a pair of goals in the 20th and 25th minutes. Park would close the gap in the 29th minute when sophomore Sophie Chapman would get the ball past JBU keeper Natalie Wall. Park would tie the match in the 35th minute after junior Maria Ruiz would set up freshman Natalie Parker for the equalizer.

Park struck first in the second half, when Ruiz tallied her first goal in the 47th minute. Two minutes later, Parker would give the Lady Pirates a two-point lead with her second goal of the match.

JBU fought back cutting the lead to 4-3 on freshman Brittany Allen’s goal in the 65th minute.

Park, however, managed to take advantage of a JBU foul in the 69th minute and scored their fifth goal off a Parker free kick to Ruiz for the header shot.

A late Lady Golden Eagle goal from freshman Melinda Gentry in the 84th minute wasn’t enough as Park held on for the win.

John Brown will return to action on Labor Day when they travel to play Newman (Kan.) at 3:00 p.m.
