Women's Basketball Signs First Recruit

Siloam Springs, Ark. (April 9, 2007) — Katie Mangels, a 5-9 forward from Truman High School (Independence, Mo.), has signed a national letter of intent to play women’s basketball for John Brown University next fall.

Mangels, who helped her team to a 20-7 record this past season, was selected First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-Area for both her junior and senior campaigns. As a senior, she led all guards in scoring and rebounding while shooting an impressive 51.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Head coach Jeff Soderquist knows what Mangels will add to the team and is very excited to have her join the Lady Golden Eagle program.

“Katie has the ability to handle the ball and get to the basket,” said Soderquist. “And she will bring an outside presence and consistent three-point threat to our offense next season.”

Mangels is one of eight recruits that will sign with John Brown women’s basketball this spring.
