Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 26, 2007) - The bright lights and red carpet glamour of the Oscars is coming to John Brown University. The Division of Fine Arts and Communication will host “The Arties,” an Oscar-styled student works art show, on Saturday, March 31 in the Cathedral of the Ozarks.
The creative black tie event will recognize the outstanding work of student artists, designers, actors, broadcasters, and musicians. The awards will kick-off with a red carpet entrance for the nominees at 6:15 p.m. General admission will open at 6:30 p.m. The Arties is free and open to the public. The show will feature award presentations combined with live musical performances. The Arties will broadcast on JBU’s campus-wide television system.
The awards ceremony is sponsored by Communication Arts Student Group (COAST), a student led visual communications organization.
“The event hopes to provide a public arena for the student’s work, a means to bring the JBU community into the arts, and an event that will further integrate JBU with the Siloam Springs community at large,” said Todd Goehner, assistant professor of graphic design.
The public is welcome to attend the awards ceremony. Dress for the occasion is creative black tie, which is formal attire with a fun flare. Men can wear a suit or tuxedo with a black shirt or a matching colored or patterned bow tie; and women can wear evening gowns or cocktail dresses with fun accessories such as a feather boa, colorful shawl or jewelry.
