Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 27, 2007) - On Monday evening, the Sooner Athletic Conference announced the All-SAC team selections for the 2006-07 season. The list, which is headed by Oklahoma Christian's Rachel Martin, Lubbock Christian's Jordan Hampton, and Wayland Baptist's Kendall Webb, includes several John Brown University basketball players.
On the women’s side, Rachel Martin of Oklahoma Christian and Jordan Hampton of Lubbock Christian were named Co-Sooner Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Players of the Year, the league announced Monday.
Martin, who was also named Defensive Player of the Year, averaged 18.7 points and 5.7 rebounds. She is a senior from Edmond, Okla. Hampton, a sophomore guard from Canyon, Texas, averaged 16.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
Three players were named Newcomer of the Year - ShaDonna Stewart of USAO, Tejana Elmore of Southern Nazarene and Viola Beybeyah of Oklahoma City.
Southern Nazarene’s Lori Carter was named Coach of the Year. Her Crimson Storm shared the regular season championship with LCU after missing the NAIA Tournament last season.
Lana Keith of Southern Nazarene and Kailan DeCamp of Oklahoma Christian shared the Freshman of the Year honors.
Brittany McBride of Northwestern Oklahoma State earned the Sportsmanship Award.
The SAC All-Conference First Team included Martin, Hampton, McBride, Khady Ngom of Southern Nazarene, Ashley Hunter of Lubbock Christian, Nikki Yager of USAO and Katie Fariss of Oklahoma Christian.
Second-team selections were Alexandra Kotta of Oklahoma City, Elmore, Chelsea Ledbetter of Oklahoma City, Betsy Simmons and Jennifer Jupin of Oklahoma Baptist and Ashley Wettengel of John Brown.
Third-team honorees were Rachel Heins of OBU, Stewart, Sierra Wilcox of LCU, Keith, Nancy Pierre of John Brown, Beybeyah and OBU’s Dilenny Castillo.
Named to the honorable mention were DeCamp, Oklahoma City’s Romana Vynuchalova, Anastasia Okolo of Wayland Baptist, D’Shanna Butler of Northwestern, Nkechi Okorie of St. Gregory’s, Lindsey Monroe of USAO, Kim Lloyd of Lubbock Christian, Zanita Johnson of OCU, Lena Brenning of OBU, Lashelle Chandler of SNU, Karthesha Rambo of USAO and Mikelle Brown of OCU.
On the men’s side, Wayland Baptist University’s Kendall Webb was named Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
Webb, a 5-10 senior guard from Amarillo, Texas, led the Sooner Athletic Conference in scoring with a 23-point average and became the all-time leading scorer at Wayland Baptist this season.
Ray Harper, who guided Oklahoma City University to a second conference championship in as many years, was named Coach of the Year.
Willie Irick, who led the Stars in scoring, was voted Newcomer of the Year.
Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Brandon Brown was named Freshman of the Year.
The Defensive Player of the Year was shared by Oklahoma Christian’s Micah Miles and Oklahoma Baptist’s Mike Fraser.
Marques Baldwin of Lubbock Christian and Keith Harris of Oklahoma Christian shared the Sportsmanship Award.
Joining Webb on the First Team were Max Eding of Lubbock Christian, Fraser, Nick Covington of Oklahoma City, Mildon Ambres of Southern Nazarene and Charles Baldwin of Oklahoma Christian.
The Second Team consists of Tramain Davis of Northwestern, Irick, Leroy Dawson of Southern Nazarene, Adam Workman of John Brown, Julius Hurd of Oklahoma Baptist and B.J. Walker of Oklahoma City.
Third Team selections were Harris, Avery Stevenson of USAO, Joel Tesis of John Brown, Danny Storey of Wayland Baptist, Gary Nunez of Northwestern, Duane John of Oklahoma City and Patrick Jones of St. Gregory’s.
Honorable Mention award winners were Kameron Gray of Oklahoma City, Tre Griffin of OBU, Jonah Broussard of LCU, Milorad Damjanac of Southern Nazarene, Miles, Brent Kimmel of Southern Nazarene, Cody Page of John Brown, Shane Hansen of Northwestern, Thomas Woods of USAO and Kortney Smith of OBU.
Ashley Wettengel, Tracie Davis, and Diogenes Molina also received Academic All-Conference honors.
