Lady Golden Eagles Struggle at Home
Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 18, 2007) — Twenty two points from senior Ashley Wettengel wasn’t enough to help John Brown (5-10, 2-2) defeat Wayland Baptist (11-7, 2-4) on Thursday night. What started off as a defensive battle ended up with John Brown going down 59-45.
Wayland Baptist sophomore Edite Kresa led all scorers with 19 points on 7 of 16 shooting including 3 of 9 from downtown. Junior Miki Mays added 12 points and grabbed a game high eight rebounds.
John Brown was only down three at halftime, but was unable to stop Wayland Baptist from scoring in the second half. Wayland Baptist improved from 39 percent shooting in the first half to 52 percent in the second half. Meanwhile, John Brown’s shooting woes continued as they were held to 35 percent shooting for the game including 14 percent from long distance.
John Brown will have a chance to break out of their shooting slump when they face Lubbock Christian at home on Friday. The game was originally scheduled to take place on Saturday, Jan. 20, but a bad weekend weather forecast has moved it up a day earlier. The game will begin at 4:00 p.m.
