Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 6, 2007) - John Brown University came up short, going down 70-63 to the second ranked Oklahoma City Stars on Saturday night in Murray Sells Gymnasium. Willie Irick led Oklahoma City (15-0, 3-0) with 18 points and five boards. Cody Page led John Brown (9-5, 0-2) with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting, while Joel Tesis controlled the boards with a game high 16 rebounds.
The Stars opened the game on a 10-0 run which left John Brown playing from behind for the entire game. John Brown shot 32 percent in the first half compared to 54 percent from Oklahoma City, which allowed them to take a 41-28 lead into halftime.
John Brown came out strong in the second half and would fight back within eight points at the 12:40 mark on an Alex Green floater, but this would be as close as they would get, as Oklahoma City would pull away and extend their lead to as much as 16 at one point.
John Brown shot 33 percent for the game, which was overshadowed by 55 percent from the Stars. John Brown, however, won the rebounding battle 42-29.
Wes Brown was a big spark off the John Brown bench scoring 11 points including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, but John Brown’s leading scorer, Adam Workman, was held to only three points.
John Brown hosts Northwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday, Jan. 11th at 8:00.
