Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 11, 2006) - After battling a shooting drought early in the second half, the John Brown Golden Eagles were able to pull away defeating Lyon (Ark.) 78-55 in Siloam Springs on Saturday night. Cody Page led the way with 28 points and 8 rebounds, after shooting 6-of-11 from downtown. Adam Workman posted a double-double with 16 points and a game high 12 rebounds, and Joel Tesis had 11 points 8 rebounds.
John Brown (5-0) took a 41-29 lead in to locker rooms, but went cold during the first five minutes of the second half. Lyon (3-2) took advantage of John Brown’s missed opportunities and went on an 8-0 run cutting the lead to 41-37 at the 16:30 mark. Adam Workman would go on to score John Brown’s first basket of the half on a goal tending call that would break the scoreless drought.
“We are starting to understand to continue playing through shots falling and not falling,” said head coach John Sheehy. “At that point, we have to be mentally tough. However, it was good for us to get the win.”
John Brown made it through the tough opening minutes of the second half and went on to shoot 44% (24-59) from the floor including 32% (9-28) from 3-point territory. They also out rebounded Lyon 41-27, and shot 85% from the foul line to 47% from Lyon.
John Brown’s next match up will be on the road against Bacone (Okla.) on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
