Ganter Leads the Way in SAC Honors
Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 9, 2006) — John Brown University senior forward Nikki Ganter captured Sooner Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors after winning MVP honors last season. Ganter, who drew most teams’ best defensive effort, had seven goals and five assists for 19 points in 18 games.
Oklahoma Christian topped the superlative awards with first-year head coach Sean O’Connor earning Coach of Year honors while Stephanie Duncan tracked down Newcomer of the Year.
Zoe Barratt of Oklahoma City, who was Newcomer of the Year last season, was named Defensive Player of the Year.
First-Team selections included Ganter, Barratt and Duncan, as well as JBU goalkeeper Natalie Wall and midfielder Amber Aparicio; Oklahoma Baptist defender Lauren Aldred and midfielder Mengjun Zang; Oklahoma Christian defender Kacie Hoppe and midfielders Kristen Brown and Heather Spencer; and Southern Nazarene defender Brenna Ingersol.
Second-Team picks were Oklahoma Christian goalkeeper Lisa Jorgensen, defender Alyssa McElvany and forward Taryn Caylor; OBU defenderJamie Marshall and midfielders Lin Yan and Autumn Oury; OCU defenders Lateesha Hunter and Erika Grabrecht, mdifleder Jennifer Crawford and forward Sarah Leonard; and USAO midfielder Jessie Brown.
