Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 2, 2006) - John Brown closed out the regular season 19-18 and a perfect 10-0 in conference play Thursday night with a 3-2 win over Southern Nazarene (Okla.). John Brown also said goodbye to seniors Juliana Todescan, Brittany Moon, Sam Rogoff, Summer Cox, and Rachel Melby, as this was their last home game in front of the crowd at Murray Sells Gymnasium.
John Brown opened the match falling in the first game 27-30, but fought back winning the second and third games 32-30, 30-26. Southern Nazarene would not lie down, and came out strong in the fourth game taking control from the beginning and closed it out with a 30-19 win. However, in the fifth game, Southern Nazarene made several costly errors that led to a 15-12 win by John Brown.
Laurae Marty led the team with 16 kills, and Sam Rogoff and Nicole Schmidt both trailed with 12. Juliana Todescan had an amazing 58 assists, 10 digs, and four blocks, and Brittany Moon led the defense with 33 digs.
Head coach Robyn Gordon is proud of the way her team keeps finding ways to pull out close matches. “They just keep finding ways to win. It’s amazing; I don’t know what to say about it,” said Gordon.
Before the match Gordon also thanked the seniors for their dedication to the John Brown volleyball program. “I can’t say enough about them,” said Gordon. “They will be tough to replace.”
John Brown’s next match takes place during the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11:00 a.m. against the winner of Oklahoma City vs. Wayland Baptist.
