Siloam Springs, Ark (September 29, 1999) — Dr. John Carmack, Assistant Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy at John Brown University, received the first Clinicians Award from the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT). The Association plans to grant the award on an annual basis.

The National President of the AAMFT presented Dr. Carmack with the award on September 18,1999 in recognition of Carmack’s dedication and history of leadership to the profession of marriage and family therapists.

Dr. Carmack was among the first members appointed to the Arkansas Board of Examiners in Counseling. This Board reviews all policies and procedures for licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Arkansas. The Board also reviews and approves all candidates for MFT licensure in the state.

"We are very proud of Dr. Carmack’s service on the State Board. He has been an integral part of the development of JBU’s graduate program in counseling and has made many outstanding contributions to the program," said Dr. Jim Worthington, Associate Dean of Graduate Studies at JBU.

Dr. Carmack has a unique background of formal graduate study and outstanding experience as a marriage and family therapist. He holds a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Master of Divinity degree. This blend of doctoral studies and seminary studies enables him to provide a truly integrated approach to biblically based counseling.

Dr. Carmack was also one of the first members of the Arkansas Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
