Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 19, 2006) - John Trent, best-selling author and president and founder of Strongfamilies.com will speak at John Brown University’s Relationships Week, Oct. 24-Oct. 26. The week is sponsored by the Center for Relationship Enrichment (CRE).
Trent will speak on his most popular book, “The Blessing,” that he co-authored with Gary Smalley on Tuesday, Oct. 24 and Thursday, Oct. 26 at 10:30 a.m. in the Cathedral of the Ozarks. “The Blessing” looks at the biblical aspect of receiving the blessing from a father or parents, and the ramifications when one doesn’t receive that blessing. Both chapel services are free and open to the public.
During the week, Trent will also speak with JBU students in a number of venues outside of chapel. He will visit a number of counseling classes, meet with resident assistants, and hold an open session with students called “Exploring the Blessing.”
JBU’s and CRE’s annual “Relationships Week” is designed to emphasize aspects of healthy, godly relationship skills to students. The week began as a part of CRE’s University Initiatives Program, a program designed to help students learn to identify strengths and weaknesses and to teach and prepare them to cultivate health relationships. The center has three, year-long themes that address relational issues and implements one each year on the JBU campus. The theme for this year is “The Healthy Self.”
“The goal of this year’s theme is to help students understand the practical ways of how being made in God’s image affects our thinking, feeling and decision making,” Mrs. Carrie Oliver, director of university relationships initiative at CRE, said.
Another element of the University Initiative Program is the Center’s Student Relationships Assessment (SRA) that is given to college students each year. The assessment helps CRE and the university determine what training students need in order grow relationally, emotionally and spiritually during their college experience. It also measures to see if Christian colleges are truly impacting students’ lives in a meaningful way.
