Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 24, 2006) - John Brown University women’s swim team placed third behind McMurry (Tex.) and Southwestern State (Tex.) this past weekend in Abilene, Tex.
The 200 yard medley relay team that consisted of sophomore Gabe Ives, backstroke, junior Gabby McCully, breaststroke, sophomore Marty Alford, butterfly, and junior Ashley Kenline, freestyle, placed 2nd with a time of 2:04.82, five seconds under NAIA national qualification time.
Kenline also placed 3rd in 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:19.85 and 3rd in 50 freestyle with a time of 27.16.
McCully won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:49.05, and also placed 2nd in the 200 individual medley clocking in at 2:26.11.
Alford placed 2nd in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:08.68, while Ives placed 2nd in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:10.79, and freshman Kelsie Schmidt swam a personal best in the 50 free at 32.48.
Head coach Anna Olander was extremely satisfied with her team’s effort and knows they will only get better as the year progresses. “The meet really went well,” said Olander, “and I expect the girls’ times will continue to drop throughout the year up until nationals.”
John Brown’s next meet will be Nov. 4th in St. Louis, Mo. at Lindenwood.
