Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 13, 2006) — The John Brown Golden Eagles lost to their second ranked opponent of the week Friday, dropping a 5-1 decision to 15th-ranked Science & Arts (Okla.) in Chickasha, Okla. NeNe Coulibally scored three goals, including two penalty kicks, for the Drovers.
The high-scoring match began as a slow defensive battle. Science & Arts did not score until the 37th minute when Coulibally rebounded a missed Tommy Hubbard header off the crossbar and put it into the goal. In the 39th minute, he scored a penalty kick to give the Drovers a sudden 2-0 lead. John Brown countered early in the second half when junior defender Jonathan Hagen scored on a direct kick in the 52nd minute. For twenty minutes, neither team could find the net, and John Brown still had a chance to climb back into the match. But after Coulibally converted his second penalty kick in the 73rd minute for a 3-1 Science & Arts lead, things fell apart for the Golden Eagles. Sophomore defender Andrew Hardin received an automatic red card in the 74th minute, and Science & Arts took a 4-1 advantage when Hubbard scored unassisted in the 79th minute. Joseph Oballa provided the final Drover tally in the 88th minute, scoring on a cross from Aiden Ashmore.
Science & Arts (9-1-2, 4-1-2 SAC) dominated the ball throughout the match, attempting 14 shots-on-goal and 6 corner kicks. John Brown (3-8-2, 0-7-1 SAC) could only muster 3 shots-on-goal and did not attempt a corner kick. Sophomore goalkeeper Spencer Watson made 9 saves for the Golden Eagles.
John Brown takes a break from Sooner Athletic Conference action Tuesday by traveling to Harding (Ark.) for a 3:00 match.
