JBU Men’s Tennis Splits in Texas

Siloam Springs, Ark. (April 10, 2006) — The John Brown Golden Eagles played two matches over the weekend in north Texas. On Friday in Arlington, the Golden Eagles dropped a 7-2 decision to Dallas Baptist before traveling down I-20 to Longview and defeating LeTourneau 8-1 on Saturday.

Austin Phillips and Bobby Rojas collected a doubles win 9-8 (7-5) against Dallas Baptist’s Eric Enge and Matt Nations. Rojas then beat Travis Dixon 6-0, 6-2 in singles.

Against LeTourneau, John Brown swept the doubles matches. Kevin Coleman and Sam Van Aswegen beat Hal Hawkins and Justin Llanes 9-7; Phillips and Rojas defeated Ben Ehmke and Jon Hay 8-2; and Kyle Carter and Peter Thulson outlasted Jeremy Martinez and Tim Brice 8-6. In singles action, Van Aswegen beat Martinez 6-3, 6-2; Rojas defeated Llanes 6-2, 6-0; Phillips topped Brice 6-1, 6-1; Carter swept Hay 6-0, 6-1; and Thulson outfought Ehmke 3-6, 6-2, 10-7.

The Golden Eagles are now 5-7 on the season. They play next on Tuesday when they host Oklahoma Baptist at 1:00.
