JBU’s McCormick Named National Player of the Week
Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 2, 2006) — Kendra McCormick of John Brown University was named the NAIA Division I Player of the Week Wednesday for the final regular-season week of her collegiate career. The 6-1 senior post from Siloam Springs averaged 22.7 points per game while propelling the Golden Eagles to a 3-0 record last week, which resulted in a #23 national ranking. She was announced as the Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
McCormick scored 18 points and a game-winning layup at the buzzer against then-24th-ranked Oklahoma Baptist and poured in 23 points in a 78-76 upset of then-9th-ranked Oklahoma Christian in her final home game. On the road against Southern Nazarene, she scored 27 points in a 64-58 victory. During this stretch, McCormick shot 53% from the field (21-for-40) and 89% from the free-throw line (24-for-27).
The Golden Eagles finished the season 20-10 and broke into the NAIA Top 25 on Wednesday in the 23rd spot. They are in position to receive an at-large bid for the NAIA Tournament, which begins Mar. 15 in Jackson, Tenn. John Brown faces Oklahoma Baptist at 2:45 on Friday in the first round of the SAC Tournament in Shawnee, Okla.
