Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 17, 2006) - John Brown University’s Students in Free Enterprise will host a luncheon and silent action for area businesspeople that features guest speaker, Asa Hutchinson*, former Congressman and gubernatorial candidate. The event will take place on Thursday Feb. 23 at the Embassy Suites in Rogers from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Hutchinson will speak on how government and individuals can make a difference.
Lunch is provided and SIFE will accept donations for an upcoming service trip to Guatemala during spring break. The ADVANCE Guatemala trip is a comprehensive community development project addressing immediate needs, social issues, and economic development in isolated farming and indigenous communities. In one location, JBU’s SIFE team is working to develop a community business that is providing funds for families to have food and for children to receive education. SIFE is also managing an initiative that is improving the economy and health of these villages by providing efficient and safe concrete stoves to families. This is the team’s third trip to Guatemala.
Hutchinson, a native of Gravette, is a former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas, Member of Congress representing the state’s Third District, head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Undersecretary of Homeland Security.
