Tennis Men Lose Narrowly to UA-Fort Smith

Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 7, 2006) — Returning to action for the first time since October, the John Brown Golden Eagles men’s tennis team visited Arkansas-Fort Smith Saturday and narrowly lost 5-4, as the Lions won twice in doubles and three times in singles.

In doubles, Brock Dial and Jordan Isom defeated Kevin Coleman and Sam van Aswegen; and Carlos Albuja and Rhett Rickman teamed up to beat Austin Phillips and Bobby Rojas. John Brown’s Kyle Carter and Peter Thulson picked up a forfeit win.

In singles, Dial, Albuja, and Isom won their matches. But the Golden Eagles kept things close as van Aswegen defeated Rickman 6-1, 6-4, and Carter outlasted Curtis Abbott 7-5, 7-6, 7-5. Thulson won his match on a forfeit, but it was not enough to give John Brown (1-1) the victory.

The Golden Eagles play next this weekend in Conway, Ark., when they face Hendrix on Friday and University of the Ozarks on Saturday.
