Free Throws Make Difference in JBU Loss
Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 6, 2006) — 20th-ranked Oklahoma Christian hit four crucial free throws in the final minute to pull out a 66-62 win over the John Brown Golden Eagles Saturday night in Oklahoma City. Brandon Cole led all scorers with 22 points and 6 3-pointers for John Brown, breaking the Sooner Athletic Conference scoring record in the process.* With a minute left, the Golden Eagles had a chance to take the lead on a 3-pointer or tie the game with a free throw, but they could not convert either attempt.
Three Oklahoma Christian players scored in double figures. Keith Harris led the way with 15 points; Brady Page scored 13; and John Nottley added 10. Micah Miles pulled down 13 rebounds and scored 6 points. Alex Terry scored 11 points and dished out 6 assists for John Brown (12-10, 7-4 SAC).
The Golden Eagles shot just 35.9% from the field and allowed themselves to be out-rebounded 43-30. Oklahoma Christian (17-6, 7-5 SAC) shot 48.1% including a 91.7% effort from the free-throw line (11-of-12). Despite the loss, John Brown still ranks fourth in the SAC standings, a half-game ahead of Oklahoma Christian. The Golden Eagles travel to Shawnee, Okla., Thursday to face St. Gregory’s at 8:00.
