JBU Pulls Away Late, Defeats Southern Nazarene

Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 2, 2006) — After leading 39-34 at halftime, the John Brown Golden Eagles battled a second-half shooting drought and a Southern Nazarene surge before pulling away with a 74-61 victory Thursday night in Siloam Springs. Adam Workman hit 6-of-11 from behind the 3-point line and scored 23 points to lead John Brown. Brandon Cole made three treys and finished with 20 points, and Joel Tesis posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Southern Nazarene (14-9, 3-8 SAC) led 44-43 with 8 minutes left in the game before Cole hit a pair of free throws to give the lead back to John Brown (12-9, 7-3 SAC). Cole scored several more points in a quick flurry that spread the Golden Eagles’ lead, and Workman continued to hit shots from outside. The Crimson Storm found themselves in foul trouble midway through the half and sent the Golden Eagles to the free-throw line 23 times in the second half. John Brown solidified the lead by making fifteen of those shots for 65.2%.

The Golden Eagles have now won four straight and six of their last seven.

John Brown travels to Edmond, Okla., Saturday to face 20th-ranked Oklahoma Christian at 8:00.
