Golden Eagles Hold off Drovers

Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 26, 2006) — The John Brown Golden Eagles held off a strong second-half surge by Science & Arts (Okla.) Thursday night in Chickasha, Okla., and emerged with a 72-62 victory over the Drovers. Kendra McCormick led John Brown with 17 points, and Ashley Wettengel followed with 13 on 6-of-9 shooting. Lesli Fanning scored 11 points with three 3-pointers.

After leading 31-21 at halftime, the John Brown (13-7, 5-3 SAC) built a 17-point 52-34 lead with 8:41 remaining in the game when Fanning hit her second trey. But Science & Arts surged back to within 2 with just 1:34 left when Nikki Yager scored a layup to make it 56-54. Kendra McCormick came through in the clutch, however, making two free throws with one second left to secure the win.

Katie Sterling led the Drovers with 18 points, and Yager scored 14.
