Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 7, 2006) - The 21st-ranked John Brown Golden Eagles collected their second Sooner Athletic Conference win of the season Saturday against Northwestern Oklahoma State. The 66-53 victory was their first conference win on the road. Lesli Fanning hit 5-of-7 three-point attempts and led the Golden Eagles with 19 points. Ashley Wettengel added 10, while Kendra McCormick scored 9 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles (10-4, 2-1) led the Rangers (3-9, 0-2) 27-21 at halftime after a back-and-forth first half in which the lead changed four times, and neither team led by more than eight. John Brown never surrendered the lead in the second half, however, eventually taking a 17-point, 56-39 lead after Fanning’s last trey at the 7:24 mark. John Brown shot 43.4% from the field while holding Northwestern to just 28.8%. The Golden Eagles also made 11-of-22 three-point attempts, accounting for exactly half of their points. The Rangers shot only 7-of-36 for 19.4% from behind the arc.
Three players—D’Shanna Butler, Brittany McBride, and Erin Goss—scored 11 points for the Rangers. Goss also contributed 9 rebounds.
