Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 22, 2005) - The John Brown Golden Eagles fell prey to a late 16-point surge by the Hendrix Warriors to lose 73-70 Tuesday night in Conway. John Brown (4-2) led 70-57 with 4:49 to play, but the Warriors rattled off 16 unanswered points to take lead and the victory.
Kendra McCormick led John Brown with 19 points, and Nancy Pierre added 15. For Hendrix, Tori Huggins and Cacey Smith each scored 20, while Bonnie Hicks followed with 13, and Erin McKinzie contributed 10.
Hendrix (3-0) led the entire first half and took a 31-26 lead to the locker room at halftime. John Brown came out strong in the second half and took its first lead 34-33 at the 16:36 mark on a basket by McCormick. Hendrix promptly regained a 35-34 lead, however, on two free throws by Huggins. Ashley Wettengel sank the first of six second-half Golden Eagle 3-pointers at the 13:22 mark to bring her team within three 42-39, and John Brown’s Brooke Warder hit another trey two minutes later to give the Golden Eagles a 47-46 lead. John Brown then went on a 23-11 run, stretching its lead to 13 on a 3-pointer by Pierre with 4:49 remaining.
That basket was John Brown’s last in the game. McKinzie, Smith, Huggins, and Kyra Shachmut all connected on crucial field goals and free throws to bring the Warriors back. John Brown committed six turnovers in those final five minutes.
