Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 12, 2005) - The 19th-ranked John Brown Golden Eagles won twice this weekend at the College of the Ozarks Coca-Cola Classic in Point Lookout, Mo. The Golden Eagles defeated Concordia (Neb.) 63-48 on Friday and the 4th-ranked team in NAIA Division II, Tabor (Kan.), 67-42 on Saturday.
Against Concordia, junior forward Nancy Pierre paced the Golden Eagles with 19 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Senior forward Kendra McCormick shot 5-of-7 to score 14 points, and freshman forward Jordan Gipson made 6-of-8 shots to score 12 points. McCormick and Gipson each pulled down 7 rebounds.
As a team, John Brown shot 47% against Concordia, while holding their opponent to just a 29.5% performance. Melissa Tinkham led Concordia with 9 points.
The Tabor Bluejays nearly defeated the Golden Eagles last year in the Coca-Cola Classic, but their second meeting was anything but close as the Golden Eagles won by 25. John Brown scored 30 points off 24 Tabor turnovers and shot 52% from behind the three-point line after having made just 8% the night before. McCormick led the Golden Eagles with 16 points, while senior guard Lesli Fanning contributed 14, including four 3-pointers. Pierre added 10 points and two treys. Stacie Herman and Erica Hemmert each scored 9 points for Tabor, while Donya Anderson added 8 points and 10 rebounds.
John Brown (2-1) will host Central Baptist (Ark.) on Friday and Philander Smith (Ark.) on Saturday in the Golden Eagle Invitational.
