Golden Eagles Eliminated on Penalty Kicks

Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 31, 2005) — The John Brown Golden Eagles lost to Oklahoma Baptist 4-3 on penalty kicks Monday after being tied 1-1 with the Bison at the end of double overtime. The loss eliminated the Golden Eagles from the semifinal round of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament. Autumn Oury gave Oklahoma Baptist a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute, but John Brown’s Nikki Ganter tied the game just thirty seconds later on an assist by Crystal Perez. Oklahoma Baptist goalkeeper Maira Negri made both the game winning save and the game winning goal in the penalty-kick round.

Oklahoma Baptist advanced to Wednesday’s tournament championship game against Oklahoma City and will host next week’s NAIA Region VI tournament as the top seed. Despite the loss, John Brown (11-6-1) still qualified for the Region VI tournament and will face Oklahoma City on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
