Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 12, 2005) - The John Brown Golden Eagles split their opening meet Saturday in Sherman, Tex. John Brown lost to host Austin College 42-63, but defeated McMurry (Tex.) 65-44. The Golden Eagles’ 200-yd Medley Relay team of Jenny Brown, Gabe Ives, Gabriella McCully, and Ashley Kenline won their race and qualified for the NAIA Nationals with a time of 2:03.74. Kenline also won the 50-yd Freestyle in 27.12 seconds, and McCully took the 200-yd Individual Medley in a time of 2:27.19. Laura Ravenscroft notched her first-career victory by winning the 100-yd Freestyle in 1:00.81, three seconds ahead of McMurry’s Stephanie Sheppard. Becca Camfield won the 100-yd Backstroke in 1:08.10, adding to her earlier second-place 1000-yd Freestyle performance in which she swam a personal best of 12:11.71. In the 100-yd Breaststroke, McCully finished second in a time of 1:14.96.
The Golden Eagles travel to Abilene, Tex., next weekend to meet McMurry and Southwestern (Tex.) on October 22 at 1:00.
