Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 20, 2005) - The John Brown Golden Eagles lost a tough game 2-1 against NCAA Division I Oral Roberts in Tulsa Tuesday evening. The game was scheduled after the start of both team’s regular seasons to make up for ORU’s season opener being cancelled by severe weather. For John Brown, the game broke the monotony of what would have been a 12-day lay-off between September 12 and September 24.
Tamara Waller put ORU on the board early with a goal in the 14th minute. That was followed in the 41st minute by a goal by Lindsey Cook on an assist from Mandy Evans. A John Brown corner kick bounced off the goalpost in the 42nd minute, and freshman Stacie Burley was there to redirect the ball into the net and pull John Brown within one. There would be no more scoring for either team, however, as ORU (4-4) held on for the victory. Goalkeeper Natalie Wall made eight saves for John Brown.
The John Brown Golden Eagles (3-4-1) will return to their original schedule this Saturday as they host Park (Mo.) at 4:00.
