JBU Finishes Third at College of the Ozarks Tournament

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 5, 2005) — John Brown University finished third in a ten-team field at the College of the Ozarks Tournament in Point Lookout, Mo., this weekend, behind Madonna (Mich.) and College of the Ozarks. The Golden Eagles went 4-1 through the tourney, with junior Juliana Todescan being named to the All-Tournament Team. John Brown defeated Baker (Kan.) 3-0 and William Jewell (Mo.) 3-1 on Friday before losing 3-1 to College of the Ozarks. On Saturday, the Golden Eagles topped Evangel (Mo.) 3-1 and Mid-America Nazarene (Kan.) 3-0 to push their season record to 7-2.

Tati Silva led John Brown in scoring during every match, averaging 15 kills per match. Todescan averaged 38.6 assists per match, and Christine Wells recorded 26.4 digs per match.

Although John Brown swept two teams, none of the matches were excessively lopsided. Against Baker, JBU won 30-24, 30-18, 30-20, led by Silva’s 12 kills and Todescan’s 33 assists. The rest of the matches were much tighter. After losing the first game to William Jewell, the Golden Eagles stormed back to win 24-30, 30-26, 30-14, 30-23. They later lost to College of the Ozarks 30-22, 30-21, 28-30, 30-24, dropping some close games despite Christine Wells’s 31-dig effort. Wells broke 30 digs again in the 30-25, 30-25, 31-33, 30-21 win over Evangel. All three games against Mid-America Nazarene went down to the wire, 30-27, 31-29, 30-28.
