Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 17, 2005) - John Brown University men’s soccer coach Bob Gustavson has announced the signing of two Tulsa, Oklahoma standouts. Thursday afternoon both young men signed letters of intent to play soccer for the Golden Eagles.
Garrett Horton is a 6’1 forward who plays for Tulsa Memorial High School. Horton was also a member of the Tulsa Soccer Club for six years where he was selected to the Regional Olympic Development Team. He is the son of Wes and Tammy Horton of Tulsa.
Also from Tulsa Memorial High School, a 6’0 defender, Lee Dewey has signed with the Golden Eagles. Dewey is also a four year member of the varsity team at Tulsa Memorial and played six years with the Tulsa Soccer Club. Dewey is the son of Brad & Della Dewey of Tulsa.
On the signing of Horton and Dewey, Coach Gustavson has this to say about the players, “Garrett will bring a lot to our program this fall. He has been a very effective goal scorer throughout his club and high school career and we are anticipating that he will continue to be a big factor for us offensively. He is gifted physically and technically and should fit into our program very well. We hope to use him as a target man up front.”
“Lee is one of the best defenders in Tulsa and we are delighted to have him join our program. He is a great young man who displays a lot of character in everything he does. Besides being an outstanding soccer player, he is a strong student who should be very successful here at JBU.”
