Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 14, 2005) - The John Brown University men and women’s tennis teams opened their spring season this weekend in Conway, Arkansas.
Friday matches saw the Golden Eagles facing Hendrix College. Hendrix beat the JBU men 1-8 and the women were defeated by Hendrix 2-7. Sam Van Sawegen and Chad Weaver came up with the only win for JBU, winning their doubles competition 8-5. On the women’s side, Raynisha Robinson and Erin Holguin were successful in their doubles match, winning 8-1. Silvy Perkins defeated Katherine Brannon 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 in the singles competition.
Saturday saw more success for both teams as the women were undefeated against the University of the Ozarks, winning 8-0. The men were unable to come up with the win, but came very close, losing 4-5 against the University of the Ozarks. Winning their singles matches for the JBU men were Tim Miller, (6-4,6-3) and Sam Van Aswegen (6-4, 6-3). Tim Miller and Ryan Likes won 8-0 and Sam van Aswegen and Chad Weaver 8-5 over their doubles opponents.
The tennis teams will host Oklahoma Baptist on Friday, February 19th on the campus of John Brown University.
