JOHN BROWN UNIVERSITY'S STUDENT NEWSPAPER GOES ONLINE
Siloam Springs, Ark (February 25, 1997) - John Brown University's student-run newspaper, the Threefold Advocate, joined the Internet revolution on Feb. 13. The first online edition of the newspaper was posted at www.JBU.edu/advocate, said Lucas Roebuck, editor emeritus of the Threefold Advocate.
Roebuck, who will manage the web page, said that the focus is to present news in a fashion that attracts more readership on campus.
Andy Klungland, editor of the weekly paper, said the online edition would also provide a way for alumni and parents to read the campus newspaper without having to receive a paper copy. But the online edition will not replace the print edition, he said.
"Editorial decisions will still be made by those on the paper's editorial staff," he said. "Because news updates will be made weekly, it (the web page) will not interfere with our work."
Klungland said that this is one way of keeping John Brown University's journalism department up to date with what other major, national publications are doing.
"It will contain the same elements as the printed edition of the newspaper, but it will allow students to link to other pages containing JBU information that a story might discuss," Klungland said.
