JBU Men Lose in Texas

Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 14, 2005) — LUBBOCK, TX—The John Brown University Golden Eagles lost 76-62 to the Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals Thursday night. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 10-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

The Golden Eagles trailed by 10 with 4:41 remaining in the first half, but ended the half on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to four going to halftime.

However the Chaps opened the second half with a 29-11 run in the first 10 minutes, to open up a 22 point lead, the largest of the game. The Golden Eagles chipped away at the lead over the final 10 minutes but never got closer then 12 points.

Freshmen point guard Tyler Dees saw his first career SAC action in relief of starting point guard Alex Terry. Terry had limited minutes in the second half due to foul trouble and an injured hamstring.

Brandon Cole led all scorers for the second consecutive game with 26 points. However the family combination of Jared and Jamaal Fears combined to score 46 points for the Chaps, Jared with 24 and Jamaal with 22.

“We have to have some help for Brandon,” said Golden Eagles head coach John Sheehy after the game. “We have to find a group of competitive players.”

The Golden Eagles play at Wayland Baptist University at 3p.m on Saturday
