Dr. John Copeland Accepts Faculty Position at JBU

Siloam Springs, Ark (October 15, 2002) — John Brown University is pleased to announce that Dr. John Copeland, executive vice president for ethics and compliance for Tyson Foods, Inc., will join John Brown University as a professor of business and executive in residence for the Soderquist Center for Leadership and Ethics.

As professor business, Dr. Copeland will teach graduate courses in business and ethics through the JBU division of business. As executive in residence at the Soderquist Center for Leadership and Ethics, Dr. Copeland will lead corporate programs in business and ethics training and serve as a corporate consultant in business ethics. In addition to new position at JBU, Dr. Copeland will continue to work with Tyson Foods, Inc. as a consultant.

Prior to joining Tyson Foods, Inc. in 1998, Dr. Copeland was director of the Natural Center for Agricultural Law Research and Information. He has also been an associate at Roy and Lambert in Springdale, and he taught at the university level as an adjunct professor of law at the University of Arkansas. Dr. Copeland also had a private law practice in Wichita Falls, Tex. for ten years.

In addition to his corporate and educational experience, Dr. Copeland is an accomplished author and speaker. He has authored or co-authored more than 90 publications, including books, book chapters, law review and journal articles, trade journal articles and other publications. He has presented more than 140 seminar lectures to universities, organizations and business throughout the United States and Scotland.

Dr. Copeland’s educational credentials include: Doctorate of Higher Education Administration from the University of Arkansas, a Master of Laws in Agricultural Law from the University of Arkansas School of Law, and a Juris Doctorate from Southern Methodist University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Dr. Copeland and his wife, Vannette, are the parents of three grown children. They are active members of Fellowship Bible Church in Lowell.
