Northeastern State Hands JBU First Loss
Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 30, 2004) — The #12 ranked JBU women’s basketball team lost for the first time this season Monday night to the Lady Reds of Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
The Golden Eagles led 8-4 after the first five minutes of the game, but the Lady Reds went on a 13-0 run that put them up 8-17 at the eight-minute mark. The Golden Eagles were never able to regain the lead. JBU pulled within seven with one minute left in the game, but Northeastern made 4 of 6 free throws to keep the lead and end the game at 45-54 and a Lady Reds victory.
Sophomore Ashley Wettengel led JBU in scoring with 11 and also contributed seven rebounds. Juniors Alicia Baer and Kendra McCormick were close behind with seven and six points respectively. As a team, the Golden Eagles shot 34.7% from the field and 33% from the three point line.
Both the JBU men and women are on the road Wednesday facing Lyon College. The next home game for both teams is Thursday, December 9th at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.
