Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 2, 2004) - The John Brown University Golden Eagles soundly defeated the Mid-America Christian University Evangels in the season opener Tuesday night. Brandon Cole, picking up where he left off last season, started the scoring for JBU with a three pointer and giving fans the much anticipated moment of flooding Murray Sells’ gym floor with toilet paper. The Evangels stayed within eight to ten points most of the first half, with JBU leading at half-time 42-29. JBU opened up their lead early in the second and never looked back, winning the game 92-57.
Going 4 for 8 behind the arc, junior guard Brandon Cole led the team in scoring with 17. Senior Rey De Gracia contributed 14 points and 18 rebounds for the game. JBU had a 42% field goal percentage for the game.
For Mid-America, guard Tracey Wilkins had 15 points to lead the scoring for the Evangels.
JBU’s next home game is Tuesday, November 9th against Lyon College.
