Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 29, 2004) - The NAIA pre-season basketball ranking list has ranked JBU women’s basketball 12th in the nation. In addition to the NAIA ranking, the SAC pre-season coach’s poll has the Eagles rated 3rd behind Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma City. The JBU men were rated 4th in the SAC. The men also received 14 votes to be placed in the top 25 in the NAIA national rankings.
The SAC conference looks to once again be a highly competitive league this season. Three men’s teams were ranked in the top 25. Five women’s teams were in the top 25, including Southern Nazarene receiving the #1 ranking in the nation.
JBU head women’s coach Jeff Soderquist commented, "We are very excited about this season and very humbled about where we are ranked. I feel the key to this team is how we deal with our success, we still must play the season game by game. But it is a great honor to the program and the girls to be pre-season ranked 12th in the nation."
John Sheehy, men’s head coach said, “We’re ready to start playing games. The players have progressed to the point where we need to get some game competition in order to improve even further. We were picked fourth in the SAC coaches poll, which is where we finished the season the last two years. Though the pick is probably appropriate, the players were disappointed feeling we should have been picked higher because we have four starters returning and won a game in the NAIA national tournament last year.“ In regards to the upcoming season opener, “We encourage everyone to come to the annual Toilet Paper Game. It is a great John Brown tradition and a lot of fun for everyone.”
The men will open their home season Tuesday, November 2nd at 7:30 with the annual Toilet Paper Game. Both the women and men will be at home November 9th at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Games are played at Murray Sells Gymnasium on the campus of John Brown University.
