Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 18, 2004) - Unable to hold their 1-0 halftime lead, the JBU women’s soccer team allowed two unanswered goals to be handed their fourth loss of the season Saturday against University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma. John Brown’s men’s team was able to capture a 4-2 win to move their record to 10-2-2.
In the women’s match, the Golden Eagles jumped out to a quick 1-0 first half lead with a goal by sophomore Nikki Ganter. USAO was able to tie the game midway through the second half to send the game to overtime. In the second overtime, USAO’s Laura Parker scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick. The JBU women move to 8-4-2 for the season and 2-2-0 in the SAC.
On the men’s side, sophomore Rodrigo Juliao got JBU on the board first in the seventh minute of the first half. USAO tied the game five minutes later. In the 20th minute, junior mid-fielder Daniel Fleming kicked a goal to give JBU the 2-1 lead. Once again, USAO tied it up with a goal 10 minutes later.
In the second half it was all JBU. Juliao scored his second goal of the game in the opening minutes of the second half. Fleming added an insurance goal in the closing minutes to give JBU the 4-2 win and a 1-1-1 record in the SAC.
Both the men and women will be in action in Siloam on Wednesday, October 20th against St. Gregory’s University. The women play at 1:00 p.m. and the men at 3:00 p.m.
