JBU moves to 25-5

Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 9, 2004) — The Golden Eagles celebrated Homecoming Weekend by defeating The University of Texas of the Permian Basin in four games (30-18, 28-30, 30-23, 30-25) and Arkansas Tech University in three games (30-24, 30-13, 30-17). JBU started the match strong against UTPB, but they lost their focus and intensity during the second game. The Golden Eagles were able to regain their rhythm in the third game to finish the match in four games. Team leaders for the match included Senior Helen Gross with 17 kills, 3 aces, and 3 blocks; Junior Christine Wells with 31 digs; Sophomore Juliana Todescan with 46 assists and 6 aces; Freshman Taylor Young with 14 kills and 5 blocks; Sophomore Rachel Melby with 5 aces. JBU faced Arkansas Tech later in the afternoon and played a fundamentally sound match. The Golden Eagles dominated with aggressive serving and offense and were able to take Arkansas Tech completely out of their normally aggressive offense. Team leaders for the match included Senior Helen Gross with 12 kills, 11 digs, and 4 aces; Sophomore Tatiane Silva with 9 kills, 5 aces, and 12 digs; Senior Meghann Wharton with 7 blocks; Sophomore Juliana Todescan with 32 assists and 3 blocks. Reflecting on both matches, Coach Robyn Gordon said, “I was disappointed with how we played against UTPB. We should not have lost our focus and given them a game. However, the girls played great against Arkansas Tech. We had 16 aces and dominated the match with our aggressiveness.”
