JBU Hosts Homecoming 2001, Oct. 12-13

Siloam Springs, Ark (October 1, 2001) — JBU alumni and friends will gather together for two days in October to say hello to one another and goodbye to a much loved campus landmark, the California Dorm. The university anticipates strong attendance at this year’s homecoming festivities, October 12-13. A main event for the weekend is a reunion of California Dorm residents and former Resident Assistants and Directors. The two-day celebration begins 8:00 Friday morning, October 12 and ends Saturday night, October 13.

In addition to the reception in the California building scheduled Friday evening at 8:00 p.m., homecoming guests can take their pick of activities such as the Second Annual Alumni & Friends Golf Tournament at Dawn Hill Country Club; the annual homecoming BBQ; alumni and varsity games of rugby, basketball, volleyball and soccer; reunions for the classes of '51, ’66, ’71, ‘76, ’81, ’86, ’91 and ’96; a concert by JBU’s Cathedral Choir and an evening with comedian/celebrity impressionist Steve Bridges.

As part of the Homecoming Showcase on Saturday evening, the 2001 Alumni Award will be awarded to Mr. Storm Whaley, a 1935 graduate whose career has ranged from broadcaster, mathematics instructor, singer, artist, speechwriter, speaker, pilot and academic and medical administrator. For 16 years Mr. Whaley performed administrative duties for the University of Arkansas, first as Assistant to the President then as acting president From 1960-1970, he served as Vice-president of the University of Arkansas’ Health Sciences. Between 1970-1992, Whaley served as Associate Director for Communications of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.
