Vote will "thwart the will of the people"

(June 30, 2004) — (Little Rock-AP) -- A grass-roots movement has arisen to stop a proposed amendment to extend legislative term limits. The proposed Amendment One is being touted as a way to make sure the General Assembly has some institutional knowledge and more experienced members. But opponents say that it's a ruse and a power grab. Term limits supporter Karl Kimball said Amendment One is a scheme to "thwart the will of the people." The will of the people he refers to was Amendment 73 of 1992, which limited House members to three two-year terms and senators to two four-year terms. Kimball and others announced the formation of a group called Save Term Limits yesterday as an effort to defeat the ballot issue.
