Arkansas trails nation in graduation rates
(June 29, 2004) — (Washington-AP) -- The Census Bureau released information today showing more U-S residents than ever have high school and college diplomas, although rates still vary greatly by race and ethnicity. Arkansas' high school graduation rate was 80-point-nine percent. Arkansas' college graduation rate was 17-point-four percent, both among the lowest in the country. Nationwide, among those 25 and older last year, 84-point-six percent had graduated from high school, up from 84-point-one percent the previous year. The share of people with at least a bachelor's degree from college also inched up, from 26-point-seven percent to 27-point-two percent, continuing a decades-long rise. Though educational levels have risen for blacks and Hispanics, both ethnic groups still trail whites in most categories.
