Senior trips busted by bankruptcy

(May 21, 2004) — (Jackson, Mississippi-AP) -- Dozens of graduating seniors in four states, including Arkansas, will not be going on a senior trip this year because the company they booked for the trip shut down and filed for bankruptcy. Students in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee booked trips to Cancun through Madison, Mississippi-based Hot Sports Student Travel L-L-C. The company filed for bankruptcy in U.S. Bankruptcy Court on Tuesday. Marilyn Roberts, whose daughter planned to attend the trip, said students were notified on Saturday by letter that their senior trips were being canceled and promised further correspondence. Mississippi attorney general's office director of consume affairs Deann Mosley says the office has started investigating the company. According to court papers, the company owes more than 339 thousand dollars to about 250 people and business. It also has less than 50 thousand dollars in assets.
