Tuesday's primary begins race for Senate seat

(May 17, 2004) — (Undated-AP) -- A U.S. Senate seat is the highest Arkansas political office up for grabs this election season. Democrat Blanche Lincoln is seeking re-election, and she is opposed in tomorrow's party primary by political newcomer Lisa Burks of Hot Springs. Among the Republicans, Rosemarie Clampitt of Hot Springs, state Senator Jim Holt of Springdale and former sheriff Andy Lee of Bentonville are seeking the GOP nomination. The winners in the primaries will face each other in the November 2nd general election. Gene Mason also has filed to run as a write-in candidate then.
