Siloam Springs, Ark. (April 28, 2004) - Four students from John Brown University were awarded first place for their Undergraduate Business Plan at the Fourth Annual Governor’s Award for Entrepreneurial Development Wednesday, April 28.
Seniors Matt Tice, Daniela Bucaro, Sarah Chess and freshman Seth Malley received an award for $20,000. The students presented their plan for “Nature’s Beef,” an organic beef company. The students' business plan outlines the company's objective to provide customers with "beef the way nature intended," by adhering closely to the USDA's standards for organic products. The plan also included strategies for distributing the organic beef product through major grocery retailers, such as Wal-Mart.
The JBU team competed Friday, April 23, in Little Rock against 12 semi-finalist teams from across Arkansas. They advanced to the final round of competition, with five other competitors, on Saturday, April 24.
The winning team was announced during a luncheon in Little Rock on Wednesday, April 28, at the Arkansas Executive Summit, a seminar for business leaders. John Tyson, chairman and CEO of Tyson Foods, was the keynote speaker, and Governor Mike Huckabee presented the awards. The competition was sponsored by Arkansas Development Corporation.

John Brown University's team of undergraduate students advanced to the Top 6 in 2003.
