Siloam Springs, Ark (January 21, 2002) - The John Brown University music department will present its annual Honors Recital Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m. The recital will feature musical performances by piano students of Dr. Linda Beckman, assistant professor of music, and voice students of Paul Smith, associate professor of music.
The student musicians were chosen to participate in the annual Honors Recital at a recent audition in which Dr. Roger Hotlestad from Bella Vista and Dr. Larry Zehring from Rogers served as judges. Hotlestad is the former Chairman of the music department at Blackburn College in Illinois. He currently works as a professional accompanist in the Northwest Arkansas region. Zehring is the Director of Music at the First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, AR and has also directed other choral ensembles in the Bella Vista area. The student vocalists performing in the recital will be: Senior Kate McCaskill, performing Moore’s “The Willow Song”; and Junior Matt Haney, performing Schubert’s “Der Neugierige.” The student pianists performing in the recital will be: Senior Lisa Cooper, performing Ginastera’s “Sonata No. 1, Op. 22”; Senior Micci Gerbrandt, performing Rachmaninoff’s “Prelude in G# Minor, Op. 36, No. 12”; Senior Katie Weaver, performing Debussy’s “Prelude in A Minor”; Junior Monique Ingalls, performing Debussy’s “L'isle Joyeuse”;and Sophomore Caleb Pond, performing Bach’s “Fugue No. 21 in Bb from W.T.C. I.”
The Honors Recital will take place in the Jones Recital Hall in the Cathedral of the Ozarks on the campus of John Brown University. There will be a reception following the recital. Admission is free and is open to the public. For more information, contact the JBU music department at (479) 524-7154.
