JBU Tennis Defeats Southwestern College

Siloam Springs, Ark. (April 15, 2004) — The men’s tennis team of John Brown University came away from Winfield, Kansas on Wednesday with an 8-1 victory over Southwestern College. The Golden Eagles won all three doubles matches and all but one of the singles as they upped their season record to 6-9.

In singles play at no. 1 Sam van Aswegen bested Lafayette Berry 6-3 and 6-2, no. 2 Kevin Coleman defeated Ramon Lozano 6-3 and 6-2, no. 3 Tim Miller won over Jason Kearns 6-0 and 6-2, no. 4 Bobby Rojas topped Warren Hanson 6-2 and 6-2, no. 5 Chad Weaver was victorious over Munya Madell 6-3 and 6-3, and no. 6 Chase Willsey fell to Jeff Russell 1-6 and 4-6.

Doubles actions saw the no. 1 team of Miller and Rojas defeat Berry and Lozano 8-3, the no. 2 team of Coleman and van Aswegen get the best of Kearns and Hanson 8-1 and the no. 3 team of Weaver and Dill top Russell and P.J. Voss 8-2.

The next round of play for the team will be Saturday, April 17 when they host both Oklahoma Christian University at 9:00 AM and then Hendrix College at 5:00 PM.
