JBU Women Finish 5th at NAIA Swim Meet
Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 7, 2004) — The John Brown University women’s swimming team locked onto 5th place on the second day of the 4-day NAIA National Swimming and Diving Championships and held that position throughout the competition finishing the meet with 154 points. Simon Fraser University was the team champion with 548 points, followed in 2nd by Cal Baptist University with 422, Cumberland College in 3rd with 262 and Translyvania University in 4th with 251 points.
The Golden Eagles closed out their scoring on Saturday evening with top six finishes by Canda Cottrill in the 200 yard Backstroke with a time of 2:15.70 and the 400 yard Freestyle Relay team notching a sixth place when they swam 3:45.71. The relay team of Lindsey Smith, Mariah Rose, Jenny Brown and Kathleen Kubricht set yet another JBU school record breaking the old record of 3:56.89 set in 2003.
“Our swimmers rose to the challenge and swam great times throughout the meet,” said JBU coach Brandi Harris following the competition on Saturday night. “I am so proud of the way our ladies performed and to set as many school records as we did is a great accomplishment. This was a tremendous way to end the season.”
